Raclette Birthday Party

My BBF, Emily, celebrated another year so we decided to party raclette style. I learned about raclette when I was an exchange student in Switzerland. For those who have never enjoyed this yummy delight, it's a grill in the middle of the table where you melt raclette cheese and then you pour the melted cheese over potatoes or over really anything you want to make more delicious. :)

I've gotten some funny comments when I tell people were moving. Here are a few:

"Isn't there a war going on there right now?"

"Will David still commute?"

"Isn't the island full of snakes?"

"There is no ice cream on Guam."

"What language do they speak?"

"Be careful. Isn't that a third world country?"

:)

David's New Routes

Here are the flights that United operates out of Guam.

Guam

We're moving to Guam in March 2013.  And here's why......

David was hired by United in November and will be based in Guam for the next 18 months.  We're excited and sad but mostly looking forward to this adventure.

This all started when David was traveling home from work in late October on a United flight.  The flight was full so he had to sit in the cockpit.  Some time in the conversation the captain of the flight found out that David was hired by United in 2008 but then his class date was cancelled.  The United captain told David about a memo that he had just read about how United was starting to hire again and was starting with the furlowed piltos and pilots who were hired in 2008 like David.  This was the first David had heard about the hiring again and got a number and name from the captain that day on the flight.

The next day David called United and talked to the hiring department who looked him up and found that he was hired in 2008 and should be on their list to call for interviews.  The thing was that David's name somehow got left off his spreadsheet.  The pilot recruiter said that he was lucky that David had called because he wouldn't have know about him since he wasn't on his list. He offered David an interview the next week in Chicago.

The day following his interview United called and offered him a position as a first officer on a Boeing 737.

He started today and found out that his base will be Guam.  We believe things happen for a reason and we are thankful for the opportunity.  We believe this is a great time for our young family to explore new places and learn new things.

I've heard good and bad things about Guam.  And I'm sure like anywhere it will have its ups and downs. I'll be blogging about it along the way.

Tonsils and adenoids out

Hayden had her tonsils and adenoids removed this morning. The surgery went well and the doctor said that her adenoids were extra large. She had about 70% blockage and now we know she will be able to get more air and ultimately rest better.

Mimi brought her gifts, did her nails and Hayden has been eating popsicles , jello and ice cream all morning. She might ask to come to the hospital again tomorrow 😜

5

Hazel turned 5 yesterday. It's hard for me to say out loud. She's a sweet and smart little girl. She loves her "bob dog and bear bear". She wanted pumpkin pie for her birthday and she could hardly wait to open her gift.

Buffalo River Camping Trip

David meeting and holding our nephew, Conrad, for the first time.
 Maw and her great grandbabies

Ivy was an amazing camper this year.  She just wandered around camp trying to keep up with the big kids.
Hayden and Hazel always love the camping trip.  The Buffalo River runs in their blood.

Sweet Ivy

Our friend Candi took some great pictures of Ivy for her first birthday.  Candi always seems to capture my kids just the way they truly are.  Ivy is a sweet little lady.  She is walking all over the house, almost running at times.  She watches her big sisters intensely and mimics all their words.  She isn't afraid to jump right in with their play, wether she is welcome or not.  She sleeps well and generally goes with the flow.  She loves picture books and gets really excited when it is time to read after bath.  She is a wonderful snuggler and a joy to our days.
